ORIGINS
The Smart Dog School of Fundraising is the brain child of Animal Shelter Fundraising's founder and CEO, Tim Crum.  Having spent over a decade in animal welfare and attending dozens of conferences, Crum felt that more often than not, conference presentations weren't practical and offered very little hands on instruction.  He decided to develop and offer a content-rich, fundraising presentations that would provide practical "how to" instruction.  The result was several fundraising workshops based upon dozens of samples of his previous work that also offered comprehensive analysis why some campaigns worked while others failed.  He even took it one step further by guiding students through the creation of their own campaigns that they could implement back home in their own organization.  Workshops were offered in select cities throughout the US in 2009, most of which sold out.  The feedback from these pilot workshops was impressive.  Many animal welfare professionals provided high accolades and rave reviews for this type of workshop.  Crum decided the animal welfare industry was ripe for the idea of affordable, practical, hands on training and that's how the Smart Dog School of Fundraising came to be.
